I noticed a few months ago when we changed the rear end and trans fluid on my 07 that there was a small leak at the bottom of the case where the trans meets the rear end.
I got under there today and its allot worse. Pretty much black from that seam were the 2 meet back. The fluid does not seem to be red. It does not smell like diff fluid but I know it has to be one of them. I checked the axle seals and they both look ok.
I see there is some black silicone where the 2 meet so Im guessing thats the problem but my question is where is it coming from? Are the 2 cases sealed and then bolted together or is the back of the trans bolted to the rear end case (if that makes any sense) Is it the output or input seal of one or the other? Is the only way to fix it to pull the whole tube and rear out and seal it all up.
I haven't dealt with this personally but have read about it here over the years. There is a tiny weep hole, about the size of a BB at the mating point to allow fluid out to avoid contamination. Likely the diff will have to come out for repair.
