So I picked up a c6 with headers and big cam. I can barely hold my hand near the passenger rear of the engine near the battery. It feel like a heat gun blowing hot air straight up.
I do not hear ticking and do not see evidence of exhaust coming out of the header gaskets. I did have a burnt wiring loom for the o2 extension wire in that area.
Could this be a major exhaust leak I have not located or just the norm?
Headers and big cam are definitely going to produce more heat. Can you pinpoint where the heat is coming from? You said near the battery area, but that's not specific enough for us to really say anything. Perhaps get an digital thermometer and find out where the hot spot is coming from...
I would hope that you have checked oil and coolant level, as well as temperature of both just to rule out something like that.

Passenger side back of engine
Straight up from header pipes
Can't tell if it is simply air bouncing off the firewall from the fans

Well the valvetrain will be runnig hotter and long tube headers will produce more heat because there is no insulating around them (unless you had them coated or trapped) so more heat is normal with the more aggressive valvetrain and wide open headers. You could certainly torque the header bolts down to spec to make sure they are sealed up, but I doubt there is a leak there as you would definitely hear it, especially upon start up.
When I did my headers, i used a lot of heat tape and wrapped up everything that was near the headers that I thought could be prone to heat damage. (wires, harnesses, plastics, etc) If there was too much heat coming from your engine, I would assume you would have a melted plug wire or some other visible damage somewhere.
