Just had my HUD repaired when the dash had to be removed to replace the evaporater (or whatever the A/C component is under the dash). At first I thought it was the mirror pivot that seems to be the most common issue. Well, I was told by the very bright young guy who was doing the A/C work as well as replacing the Master Cylinder for the clutch, etc. He said that the screws holding the HUD assembly had Melted the plastic that they were holding. He fixed that with new screws and adding washers. Now I live in Northern VA - it does get hot here but if you live in Fl or TX or other really Hot Climes you may be having a similar problem. I am going to use some foam poster board cut to cover the HUD and cover it in Aluminum foil so that when I have to park in the sun during the summer I can cover the HUD in hopes of avoiding overheating the interior of the HUD------FYI

Reason: make some typo errors
Be careful that little pieces don't scrape off the foam board or whatever you use. Maybe a cardboard covered with some kind of heat reflecting so you can just throw it on and grab it easily without any potential for little pieces coming off? Just thinking out loud. Really a great write up for all to follow.
Great write up! I'm having a hard time finding a new replacement HUD for my '05 I guess the fix is the only way to go nowadays. Thanks for the write up!

Granted this was about a year and a half ago, but I had no problems finding one and ordered it from Cultrag. I did repair my old one, but the plastic was very brittle and degraded by the sun so I ordered a new one. I didn't want to do that job again on my '05.
In the middle of repairing my hud. It is out of the car. In trying to get to the flat black area under the lens, the lens was too brittle. I will order that. Question is what about using 3000 grit sandpaper spray painted with flat black as the material to replace the sun damaged flat black material that goes under the lens? Or where to get the flocking material mentioned in the prior post?
Old thread but for anyone that has this same issue, I sanded off the cracked material & then glued down a piece of black felt cut to size. $0.50 fix & it worked great.
This is awesome! Thanks! I'm thinking I'll replace it with a new one. My vert is a 2006, so I'm hoping that another 15 years go by before I have to fix it again!! lol!
Maybe I'll repait the old one and keep it as a backup.
Digging up an old thread, and have created a new one, but perhaps someone on this thread can help. Tool my HUD part and had same issues with broken mounting brackets and made new ones from metal and epoxy. Awesome thread and instructions by the way!
Anyhow, put all together in the car, my image is not being projected to windshield. I can see eve thing working standing outside the car looking down through the windshield, all the HUD controls work, mirror tilt etc.
I am guessing the blue step motor or the mirror itself are in the wrong position.
Can anyone offer any advice? I don’t see that much difference in my setup.

I haven't done mine yet, but there are several YouTube videos that address the issue. One of them mentioned that when you replace the mirror, it has to be indexed so it will reflect properly. Hope this gives you a starting point

If you can share a link to a video or anything that shows indexing for a C6, that would be so helpful! I saw a video for a C5 that had gear teeth count, but that was it.
Mine was put together, and if my eyes were level with the top of the dash, I saw the HUD display, but adjusting it made it just vanish lower. It has to be some adjustment
Great thread , this ! I just replaced mine over 2 days , but took the dash out. I could only find a used unit , fom , I think , an '09 . Came from Latvia , 300 Euros , 20 for post . Nobody has new ones currently , even Cultrag , who have no idea when they may get supplies . As for ther flat black treatment inside the unit, a quick Google for 'telescope flocking ' should get you a result , it's likely very similar to the original treatment and easily applied. I've used heaps of it on my 'scopes in the past.
Looking for a shop in the Los Angeles or San Diego area to repair the HUD on my 2006 C6. The HUD still works and is visible if you look down from the top of the dash but cannot be adjusted. I assume that I have the same issue as others with broken mounting brackets. I have researched several post on how to repair the HUD but have no desire to pull the cluster or dash. Any recommendations?
