Your t45 connector bolt once removed will all you to pull the entire shifter with box out of the car (remember to have the trans in neutral before you remove the t45 bolt and disconnect the coupler), then via removing the two side T45 bolts, the entire shifter and lower box will lift up and out.
Once you remove the old shifter from the top of the lower box, remove the two screws on the front nose piece of the lower box, and you can slide the lower box center rod out to clean the parts, polish the rod is needed, and re-grease the parts before putting it back together and installing the MGW to the old box.

As for once you have the shifter installed on the old box box correctly and ready to put it back in the car,
Start with just installing the two side T-45 bolts loosely so the shifter box can still slip front to back, then tighten the rear coupling bolt to 41ftlbs first with the entire box slipped so the side bolt are about center of the slots.
Now with the coupling bolt tight (again, 41ft lbs), you can tighten the side bolt to index the shifter.
Note, The MGW shifter will hold itself in centered neutral position, so unlike the OEM shifter, you don't need to lock it in place via a lock pin. And again, before you disconnect the back coupling to begin with, make sure that the trans is in neutral.
Lastly, before you even start, bank that the rubber bushing for the side T45 bolts are shot (falling apart).
So on that note, order new poly bushing to start with, to replace the old worn out rubber bushings when you have the box apart to clean and re-grease it.
