Default My turn with clutch issues.. HELP!!!

I bought my 2012 C6 Base a couple months ago. The other night when I got in and depressed the clutch it went to the floor and wouldn't come up. I ended up having to start it in gear to get it home. I was only a few blocks away. First thing I did was look on here and saw contamination problems with the clutch master cylinder and did the fluid change and it was pretty contaminated. The master cylinder appears to be the original one. I was really disappointed that it did nothing to solve my problem and now it won't start at all. This is my first Vette and I obviously have a LOT to learn. Also this happened without doing any hard pulls or high speed high RPM shifts. Anyone have any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to replace your slave cylinder. This job is VERY involved so choose quality parts, put in a nice clutch and a remote bleeder too.

There is a TSB for the clutch master cylinder issue you described.
Here is the thread for it. You should be able to have the MC replaced under this TSB...

Ouch. Good luck with it. Hope everything goes smoothly. I myself also just got mine not to long ago and also have a lil problem with clutch related. Seems its a very common problem on these.

Not as common as you may believe, if the fluid gets cleaned and recycled with DOT4. Check the search for Ranger Method for instructions on clearing the dirty fluid out.
There is also a TSB on faulty clutch master cylinders, as posted above, which is another issue.

Yes, i do that method regularly. Fluid does get dirty in a very short period of time. But ive read other threads where they do the same maintenance routine and still experience problems with either the slave/master cylinder, pedal stuck, unable to fast shift, pedal drops an inch or two, or other symptoms. Even with cylinder replaced already.

Thanks everyone. It sure SUCKS having a beautiful day and a beautiful car that I can't drive. I'm not looking forward to dealing with this small town GM dealer.
Now is there and suggestions on how to get it to the dealer? Will it go on a rollback without damaging anything?

Well that sucks for people expecting performance from their stock setup, and they should, shame on GM. I've heard of upgrading to the Tick Performance slaves and masters. Does that solve the shifting issues?

Just make sure that they realize that it's a corvette that they will be picking up.
I think that there is a copy floating around the forum of the TSB. Might be a good idea to get a copy. Some dealers are clueless.

Good luck..

Happened to me about 1.5 years before GM did the master cylunder recall. This is how I fixed it for the cost of brake fluid.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1589895373

I installed a Tick later on. It did not solve the fading pedal issue. I replaced the stock clutch with a Monster LT1-S, and that cured my pedal issue.

see "tick master worth it" thread. I love the Tick Master, as the original plunger came off when I was changing the fluid. It doubles the work to do the move of the pivot point up 7/8 inch, but I am glad I did it. I blamed the transmission (or me) for missing shifts, and I have not missed a shift in two races and believe it to be the new master. See the TickPerformance.com website. If you are replacing the master, why put in the poor quality factory unit? Although it is $380 to $140. Unless you have to expedite the order and don't order the short and long hoses so it cost me double expedited delivery and a total of $640. The cost to get to Big Willow for a race that weekend. The labor cost me $500. When you replace your clutch (hopefully not the issue), put in the Tick slave with a bleeder and have a far more long lived system.

UPDATE... I took my car to the local dealer and everything will be covered at no charge.. I also ordered the remote bleeder and now I'm looking for a new clutch.. Any suggestions for a better then stock? I'm not really wanting to spend the money for a high dollar racing set but if something's out there that's a little better then stock that won't take too much play money..

The cost of the clutch itself is incidental to the cost of the labor to put it in. There's nothing wrong with the stock clutch unless you have lots of miles or it was damaged.

It has 33,300 miles on it and they're pulling the tranny to replace the slave cylinder so I'm just going to get a new clutch and have them put it in now.. Should be good for as long as I own it.. I almost bought a 2016 today..

Hi and thanks for the post. My 2007 ZO6 with 8000 miles on it just had the same thing happen with the clutch. I don't drive it much and have never raced it. However It seemed from your post that GM replaced the master and the slave.
Is that correct? Most other posts suggest that GM only replaces the master on the extended warranty. Could you please elaborate on what GM replaced. Thanks!

Chevy dealer only will fix the master slave cylinder under 10 years old, 120k miles. However. You may squeak by. Drop in and tell them they should fix it under the recall the years for that particular recall was for 2005 to 2013 I believe. Although it’s over 10 years old. Never know until you try.

I just had my 08 at the dealer and they said its a no go.

The warranty replacement master from GM is good for 10 years.

I wasnt happy.

I installed a Monster Clutch and new slave, kept the original master from 2008, and it all works perfectly.

Thanks for the input. Could you tell me if GM replaced both the master and slave on your car?
