You just need a replacement cluster, a Tech2, and a couple of hours to do it. The cars milage is stored in the bcm.
Absolutely wrong!
The C6 Corvette mileage is stored in the instrument cluster. A Tech2 does not have the ability to reprogram the mileage. At a dealershiplevel they have to send a request in to GM for a special program that gets written to transfer the new mileage into a replacement cluster or BCM. This is done only at a dealership (on certain models of GM vehicles). The cost is much cheaper if done by a cluster repair business.
Even then, most dealerships would decline to do this service because you didn't purchase the replacement instrument cluster from them. (clusters are no longer in production).
Could you imagine all the fraud that could be committed if you could simply reprogram the mileage with a Chinese clone Tech2.
If you need further proof....read the bottom of page 2 of this document. It mentions the C6 Corvette instrument cluster must be sent to a ESC-(electronic service centre). So even a dealership can't do it with SPS on TechConnect.

You read. I did. And it is 💯 stored in the bcm.
One edit, I used my Launch X431 to change the odometer.
And btw fraud would be 100% if it were stored in the cluster. Buy a used 35k mile cluster on ebay and install it. Now I have a 35k really 120k mile car.

I read the bulletin and thank you all for attaching it. It says for my year of corvette (2005) the odometer programming is in the IPC and the programming method is ESC. What is the ESC.
My servicer, C&S Corvettes says they are not able to program a replacement instrument cluster and suggested that I just put a used cluster in. That does not sound good to me since the odometer reading would be wrong.
ESC is an Electronic service centre. This means the instrument cluster must be sent in. Just find a business in your area that specializes in instrument cluster repair. They read the eeprom chip on the original cluster to verify the mileage. Then they use special software to change the odometer reading on the replacement cluster eeprom.
These companies require both instrument clusters in order to do this service.
The software used to provide this service is expensive. That's most likely why C&S Corvettes doesn't do it.
The C7 and C8 Corvettes store the mileage in the BCM but not the C6 Corvette.
A local company is telling me that he has had good luck just swapping the EEPROM from old to the replacement. What are your thoughts?
Ask him if he has ever done that with a C6 Corvette cluster. Usually to read/write the eeprom is removed so that would make sense.
Please let us know what you discover.
I know that most of these companies use the Tachosoft software to rewrite the odometer reading. They are unable to get the exact mileage installed on the replacement cluster but usually it will end up being within a couple hundred miles.
How was the programming done? Future owner with possible issues might want to know this info.
It was done by a company that uses software to adjust the mileage reading. The cluster was sent to them and they made the adjustment. In case you are not aware, the C6 instrument cluster has no VIN number programmed into it and the only thing adjustable is the odometer and is only done when replacement is needed.
Note: I talked with the company and sent them photos of my existing cluster mileage to make sure everything was on the UP and UP. They did not need both clusters in this case.

Yes, I was very aware of all that, but I was wondering if you care to share the name of the company you used so in the future, other forum members can use them.

I did not get that at all from your previous reply but I am glad to share the contact info for the company that did the work.
