Default Interior light issue

I am having trouble with the interior lights on the rear view mirror not shutting off while driving on my 2008 Z51 vert. They eventually will shut off after about 5 to 10 minutes after the car is shut down; any ideas?:

Dash switch is in the on position. The button left of the steering wheel that dims the dash lights is also a push button that turns on the interior lights. Try that and see if it solves the problem.

Hi CorvetteTony2008,

I see that you’re experiencing some interior light concerns in your Corvette, and I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused. If you would like to visit your dealership for this matter, I would be more than willing to offer additional assistance.

Please feel free to reach out if this sounds like something you would be interested in, or if you come across any questions.

You not alone, lots of people have had this issue and the fix is so simple!

Don't take it to the dealer!! They will charge you over a $100.00 to push that button....

Happens to most c6 owners when they first get the car. You hit that a button with your knee as you get out and it turns on the lights. You get used to it after you know how to avoid it.

What several others have forgotten to tell you is that there will be no noticeable effect from pushing in that button one time and releasing it. But when you get out of the car and shut the door, those map lights will go out within 12-15 secs after you shut the door.

That button does not control the map lights, only the footwell lighting. I think the only reason they are shutting off is the battery override, they should shut off after the car is off in 12-15 seconds; it takes 5-10 minutes to shut off, they stay on while the car is running all the time? Any other ideas?

It controls both for exiting the car, and the reason that his mirror lights are staying on after he shuts the car down, gets out, and shuts the door.

So as stated, your mirror lights should dim out in about 20 seconds once you shut the door. If they are not, them push the dimmer button in once and retry the shut down and door close to make sure they dim out in about 20 seconds.

Also to the note, the mirror buttons are backwards from conventional thinking, so make sure you have them in the correct positions.

What are the correct positions for the buttons?

IIRC, out is "on", and in is "off".

And while I'm here, I thought that I read that the interior mirror lights were on continuously whenever the engine is running.

The mirror buttons, in the up position for off, and in the lower downward position for them on instead.

As for the dimmer switch, as noted, there is not an in or out position (just the single inward push over and over again), so you have to do the blind push it once to see if you have the BCM set for them to be off or on when the car is shut off and the door closed to time the mirror and foot well light out.

Yes, the mirror lights on on continually; the buttons on the mirror are in the out position, is this correct?

When I first bought my car it had the same issue. The dealer said it was a module and replaced it. No more problem (07)

Thanks for all the help with this issue; turns out I had the buttons on the mirror out instead of in; I thought you pushed in for on and out for off; I feel stupid, although the manual does not clarify the positions, all is good now.

What a screwy setup, huh? Don't feel badly. I did the same thing except I accidentally pushed the dash dimmer button. I went nuts for a while trying to figure out why the mirror lights wouldn't extinguish in 20 seconds. Then I figured it out by trial and error.

Don't feel stupid Tony...I've done the same as many others have.
