Default tires for first time owner

I just purchased a 05 coupe 6 speed. It still has original tires on it. What tires would you all recommend for a more touring ride with a little aggressive here and there? I was thinking run flats to save wheels in case of a flat but not sure which ones. Thanks in advance. Uncle Jay

I went with the Hankook Ventus v12 and I'm very happy with the price, grip, and ride quality. They're a nice upgrade over the original tires and I just keep a plug kit and small air compressor in the trunk in the unlikely event I have a flat. Plus, my car insurance covers roadside assistance.

Firestones wide ovals RFs are a very good choice for the money, I'm on my 2nd set and very happy with them.

More than one poster here has stated that he went from the Michelins to the Hankooks and could tell no real difference. The Hankooks are half the price.

Plus, the original poster said he mostly tours with the car, much like me and my wife. We don't need that last 5% of grip.

I can say that driving with the Hankooks and a fresh alignment makes the car feel as smooth and plush as a luxury car and still handles the curves like its on rails.

It really depends on your driving. I hate runflats and I have a higher hp car so a drag radial is a must. For normal driving on under 400 rwhp, I really really like michelins.

Same here. They truly are the best, but at $1,800 a set, they should be!

I have Nitto 555 on my Mustang, and I like those also and they are 1/2 the money.

Had Hankook's on mine for a long time--did fine, lasted a long time, were quiet and not over priced. Didn't hook 1/2/3 once they were worn + a little more power over stock though

NT05R's now

I did the Indy 500 version of this tire. I can't believe the difference when compared to the run flats. I was going to do the PSS's but t h e were back ordered for 1-3 months.

I will never do RF's ever again.

The only time a run flat tire is a good tire is when it's flat.
I'll never have them on my car again.

I switched from the stock GY's to Bridgestone RE-11's. They are night and day better in grip, and have plenty of tread life. I am running 275's up front and 325's in rear on LG World Challenge Wheels.

I ditched the stock set of inflatable cement shoes and went with some Dunlop Direzza DZ102s.

My first choice was to get another set of Michelin Pilot Sports (had them on the C5), however, the Dunlops were at such a great price point (nearly half the price) I couldn't resist.

The Michelins are better, but I'm not sure they're twice the tire as the DZ102s.

My car had the stock Goodyear runflats in the rear and goodyear f1 non-runflats in the front when I bought it.

I replaced the rear runflats with Bridgestone RE-11's a while back..... transformed the car.

I wanted the pilot super sports, but they were backordered nationwide at the time and I couldn't find them. I even called Michelin, and they had no expected date for me. The RE-11's are awesome.

Any of the tires listed above are good. I choose MPSS, but they are not the end all tire. Make sure to get an alignment done after you get new tires. I suggest the pfadt pure street alignment specs. My car was dangerous with rear toe a little out of spec and old goodyears. These cars are sensitive to suspension and tire changes. New tires and minor adjustments to my alignment transformed the car into a blast to drive. Be safe and do it right, the car is worth the money.
