Ignition relay clicking after start button is pressed
I just wrapped up stalling my motor last weekend after a 441 stroker upgrade and when I went to turn her over from the first time the gauges went dark and the ignition relay under the hood clicks rapidly with no end unless I power down the car.
I've checked all of my grounds and they are all attached correctly.
I also installed a new OEM starter, sparco wheel and seats.
I also pulled a battery out of my other vehicle to ensure that it wasn't the battery.
Looking for someone who has maybe ran into the same issue before I start ripping my car apart and going backwards any help will be greatly ............
If you remove all of the spark plugs, can you turn it over by hand?
If the answer is yes, then drop the starter and have it checked out.
In this case, I will presume that this starter is the proper starter for your block.
If the starter is good, then the problem would be that the starter is not getting the proper electrical current, because either the battery doesn't have sufficient capacity, or proper current from the battery is not reaching the starter.
Now you're left with the positive/negative wiring and connections.
If it only clicked a few times and quit and then 5 seconds later the dash reactivated, I'd suspect a solenoid problem, such as a cracked bakelite housing at the positive cable connection. Could have been caused by overtightening the nut or bumping the cable beyond the available slack.
However, if you have to push the off button to get the clicking to stop, it sounds like a dead short in the starter or the starter shaft is locked up and can't rotate.
Of course, both of those diagnosis are dependent upon the engine's ability to rotate, so check (hmmm)'s first question first.
