Ok so I was driving to work, I have a 2012 c6 sc with an alky kit, and all of a sudden the temperature began to rise and no codes popped up or anything.. So it passed 230 and then went to 260 so I pulled into my work and smoke began coming out from the hood, the coolant spilled .. Car began shaking a little so I popped the hood and steam was coming out from the coolant cap.. Any idea what it could be? I remember that at the end the light said change oil soon 😳😳😭😭
after 3 hours of letting cool off, i turned on the power and the temp was reading 130f and the light 'change engine oil' appeared.. I turned on the engine and the ac is blowing cold, car sounds fine but that oil light is on.. any ideas? sounds like maybe the head gasket which i pray it isnt
Check drive belt for water pump, stuck closed thermostat, radiator fans not working, blockage in front of radiator, host of things to check.
Well there's no engine light on any more but it does say change engine oil. Fans are blowing cold air, no white smoke coming out the exhaust, car isn't shaking , however the temp was rising and it reached 140 before I turned it off... Going to get this gasket test thing at Walmart to see if it's a blown gasket.. But looks like maybe the water pump or thermostat if I had to guess..
Good chance no damage was done, and you just overheated from normal SC vette stuff. If you have a SC on a vette you need to do cooling mods to keep the temps under control in warm weather. Next time car gets 230+ you need to shut the ac off and let it cool down ASAP. You should have never let it get 240+.
ok have a quick question for you --- when was the last time you flushed your coolant system? I have seen this problem emerge when coolant systems are flushed and an air pocket forms. If you have not flushed your system, everything you have described points to water pump failure.

When I took it in to my shop for electrical fan issues lol so there was a valvoline right next door so I said wtf might as well have the fluids changed and oil change ... Well the guy said it definitely leaked and he thinks it might be a hose ... But after when done, I noticed the radiator fan wasn't spinning.. So it seems issues with the electric wiring frying again causing the fan to not work fml ... 3rd time with this issue.. Cali has been in the 100's the past few weeks .. The times it's gotten really hot out= my wires have fried causing the fan not to work and the temp nearing 250 fml.. Thank god it's not a gasket though lol

I thought people run their car up to 280's on the track and be fine with it, am i mistaken?
Well it's either a bad dude again or the water pump which I think it is.. Would it be a good idea to go with a moroso electrical water pump instead of a oem??
See if the connector melted inside. The connector should be on passenger side of radiator near the top. When it melts fan stops car overheats. Since it seem to happen quickly that is a place to look.

when you overheat the car the change engine oil light will come on to inform you the oil may be breaking down due to the overheat condition.simple fix.change engine oil and reset oil life monitor

Yea that's happens 2 times already and once back in May except this time the Ac still blows cold air . I shall find out tomorrow

Yea luckily there was a valvoline next door and had them change the oil and coolant .. The check oil light went away but if I run the car , in 3-5 minutes it climbs to 230 and will keep going and the "check coolant " light comes on and the fans aren't working fml
