Here is a good one, the C5 & C6 are the same install. This is a head and cam DIY just don't follow head removal portion.

My understanding to remove cam, you have to remove lifters. To remove lifters you have to remove heads. ......just saying

No sir you are incorrect, you can use the dowel method to retain the lifters in place. If you look closely at my picture below that my heads are in place while I performed my cam swap.

Cam being pulled

Once you remove the cam retainer plate install two 5/16's dowels into two windows on each side of the cam. Then pull the cam and insert your new bump stick.

No egg on face, just proving it can be done with out removing the heads. I'm glad you've learned something today

Brandon, teach another old dog .... back in the old days we always replaced the lifters when installing a new cam and then had to perform an extensive break In procedure to keep from wiping off a lobe

With the new roller rockers is this no longer necessary?

I like the idea of my having to pull the heads

Dave

Hello Dave, for me it all depends on your set up. I just recently did my heads and then I switched to LS7 lifters. At the time of the pictured cam swap my motor had 35,000 miles on it. I changed the oil pump, timing chain and upgraded to an ATI balancer. It all depends on your budget, If I were to do it all over again I would do my heads and cam at the same time and never look back. Here is some pictures of my recent swap.
