It's been done many, many times. I've ran nitrous on various cars since the late 80s and I've never had an explosion. A properly set up system can be very effective. On my Cobra I had a Procharger F1a, Wilson plate nitrous system and a progressive AEM meth system.
Unlike a turbo car, where you have a lot of boost adjustability, blower cars can be limited by pulley size, impeller speed and belt slip. For someone not wanting to put a bigger SC on, a shot of nitrous might be a good option.
