Looking for some advice to tackle my Cat issue. First of all I purchased the Hinson headers for "11 GS, but I went with the 3" inlet and switched out my exhaust. I also elected to do the catless x-pipe. However, the fumes are getting the best of me now.
With that said, I'm looking to purchase some aftermarket high flow cats and wanted to know what would the install entail? Is a simples cut and weld the x-pipe and reconnect the O-2 sensors, would the placement go before the x-pipes? What cats are recommended and finally, what are some other options to the fix. Thanks in advance.
I would take a look at the other header manufactures location for the ccats. They usually go a few inches/foot past where the header takes a 45 degree down the tunnel. The cats with the attachment tubes are about 9-10 inches long. You also need to be aware that the O2 sensors need to be before the cats so plan accordingly. You may want to have a shop do it with a lift and you are right there is a method to the cut and weld so that the x pipe goes back on easy. Not sure on brands I think Dynatech sells a high flow cat.
you can just cut the x pipe and slip on cats then use decent exhaust clamps (the band kind) to hold them in place if youre just doing it for smell
if youre worried about emissions then you need to take into account the secondary O2 sensors and make sure that each cat is in between the primary (closest to engine) and secondary (furthest from engine) sensor
good luck!
