Default Shifting Problem

Hi,Guy's About 6 month ago I had a problem with the shifter and found it to be in the shifter so I fixed that. Now I went out in it last weekend parked it when I went to leave the shifter moved back and forth with no problem and no gears. Towed it home found that the plastic grommet was broken at the trans. Replaced it and now when you shift the car it doesn't go into gear till it is half way between the gears on the shifter. Is their any adjustment on the cable? or did I do something wrong?

Did you replace the grommet or the whole shifter cable? If you just replaced the grommet then you did not match up the gear notch at the tranny with the shifter indicator. Put the shifter into park and then manually move the lever on the tranny all the way back to match the park position. Then connect the cable linkage to it.

Btw, there is an adjustment on it to make and set if installing a new cable.
