Hi, I've been building and racing an old 88 vette with an LS motor/6speed in it and I just got rid of it for a C6. I hear that the C6 has spinning out issues talking to a friend that worked at the proving grounds. I have noticed that when it breaks loose it's very hard to control the slide. I could slide (drift) my 88 all day long and could power out of the slide to a straight line. Why is the C6 so difficult to work with when you break it loose? What can be done to make it more controllable when you do slide it? Different tires? I have not had it very long and it is very low miles at this time so I'm not quite ready to do a major teardown but it would be nice to see what your guy's history and experience says. THX
Z51 sway bars made my 2010 base car feel much better to me in these and other circumstances. Still not as confident in it as I've been in other vehicles...of course; I don't try it nearly as much now as I did when I was younger...maybe its just a practice thing lol
U r also going to have to check tire temps and air pressure to try and get even temps across them.
Lots of alignment threads here to check.
Probably just like setting up your old car. Drive and check. Adjust alignment, toe and camber until you get even tire temps and I bet u will be able too do your sweepers with your right foot.
The rear is sensitive due to poor shocks. DRM bilsteins really help the car out.
Nothing wrong with a C6, its one of the better handling chassis out there.
Chasing down particular problems are more often then not tire related.
I agree about the Bilsteins. My C6 came with the F55 Mag Ride. Just replace then all with Bilstein Sports with a good alignment and it's a different car. Honestly, the F55 is junk.
The C6 handles very well and can be drifted if you are ready for it. Snap oversteer is what people who don't drive well call bad handling. The higher the ultimate grip of a car leads to quicker snap oversteer. A Formula 1 car has the highest snap oversteer but has the highest grip and the best drivers. Rear weight bias makes it worse which is why a Porsche needs electronic aids to keep from killing it's drivers but a C6 with max negative camber and the best and widest rear tires you can have can be controlled if you are a good driver. I track my C6 with 275s on the front and 305s on the back with 2.5 degrees on the front and 1.5 degrees on the back and can drift it at 130 mph on the track with all the aids off. Leave them on until you practice a bit than hang it out.
so you built and raced cars but don't have a clue? your buddie worked at the proving grounds? does he speak German? cause most (99% of the work on the C6 was done in Germany
People may say that tires don't matter, but there was a huge difference when I went from the Goodyear stock Z51 tires to the Michelin Super Sports.
I went through Z06 shocks, Bilstein's, Pfadt coilover and now LG Bilsteins coilovers. I also went through three different sets of sway bars in the 10 plus years that I have owned the car, and tires make a HUGE difference in the performance of the car.
