How much for basic dyno tune
Hence going to take about three pulls for dyno tuning, you still have to pay the $100'ish for the software uses (HP tuner or EFI live that has to registered to the car, even with the software on their laptop), and then there is the street drive they need to data log to make sure that the re-turn is working correctly during street driving as well.
So the AFR dyno pull takes a few mins to strap in the car and do a few quick pulls with basic monitoring, while the dyno tune is going to take a few hours isntead. If any saving, maybe $50 at most, since it's the strap in time and a few pulls that you would be saving at most.
Lastly, before you allow a shop to tune the car, get references that they know now to tune a vet correctly to start with, and have done so well in the past. A bad tune is the quickest way to destroy a motor in a heart beat instead.
Simply, the prize for dyno pulls may be from a new shop with novice turners to drum up more business, and the last thing you need it a "Tooner" learning how to tune correctly to begin with on your vet.
To add, if you do allow a shop to tune your car, get copies of the stock tune file on a thumb drive in case you need someone else to flash it back in, a copy of the new tune file on the thumb drive, and make sure that they are not locking the tune (will lock the dealer out using a tech II to make needed module firmware upgrades/re-flashing, and even able to do things like simple TB relearns as needed as well).
If you have questions on the tune after the fact, then post the tune file here, and most of use have both EFI live and HP tuner that can take look at the new tune file to make sure is jives, and not a mess isntead.
