Default Help with PTV clearance

i have a stock LS3 motor with stock cam that I will be installing 1.85 rockers (and upgraded springs in) which will increase lift to 0.600 intake And 0.568" exhaust. Down the road I plan on installing 0.040" head gaskets (vs stock 0.051" thickness) to increase compression. Will the 0.011" thinner gasket potentially cause PTV clearance issues with the new lift I'm getting with 1.85 rockers? I know there's variation in parts and measuring everything is how to be sure I am trying to figure out if it's known that A) definitely won't work, B) cutting it close measurement a must or C) plenty of room, shouldn't be an issue. If it's A or B I wouldn't Pursue it.

You're going thru a lot of work for very little gain... I would just get a cam and be done with it.

I've never bothered to test PTV with a .040" head gasket and a stock cam but I would bet there's tons of clearance. It's not necessarily about how much lift the cam has but more about valve events. You can make a .550" lift cam have no PTV and a .700" lift cam have tons of room.

Regardless, why spend all the time and effoty trying to make your stock camshaft make more power when you can just change it out and make some real power.

1- don't want to go thru all the work to pull the harmonic balancer
2- don't want to spend the extra money for a cam
3- we can do the mod our self ....
4- don't want to loose the daily driveablity and reliability
5- can blaze the tires at will now , a cam will just make this worse
6- ok with the little gains that bolt on's provide
I can go on and on but I will stop now

Since we're listing...

1 - Willing to pull heads but not willing to take the rack out doesn't make sense
2 - If $400 for a camshaft is out of your realm, DO NOT MOD YOUR CAR (I know springs were already purchased from one of the other threads started)
3 - If you can do heads, remove the PS bracket (it's annoying)... you can do a cam, have faith in yourself. It's all just nuts and bolts.
4 - You don't have to, don't go buying a ridiculously large cam like so many do
5 - If you can blaze the tires don't bother cracking open the motor then anyway right?
6 - Not even worth the little/no gain you'll see from that tiny bump in compression

You're not the OP but guessing you're working with him. Good luck to you... I do this as my job and just trying to help guide away from someone wasting their hard earned money and valuable time on something that may get them little/no benefit.

poster above is not working with me but a lot of the things he said hold true for me. I do not trust myself (or any shops I know) to install a cam. I am doing 1.85 rockers which I've seen multiple people post 15-18 hp from, yella terra claims 12 hp. I haven't decided but I may attempt removing heads down the road. GMPP ported heads (not the best but very cheap) have shown 10hp throughout the rev range on a stock engine, maybe a little more with my increased lift. Thinner gasket raises compression and should add another 5-7 hp. That would get me to where I want to be. Doing all the work myself. Yes buying and installing a cam yourself is cheaper and more hp but not everyone wants to go that route. And tinkering with the car myself is half the fun. I've never cracked open a motor before. Just swapped intake manifold and installed headers, throttle body, intake. "Waste of money" is all relative.
