To start off, I have already done a search and did not find what I was having an issue with.
so a little background, the car is at 72k miles. 08 with 6 speed.
So the last week or so, I was having issue with my remote, it wasnt registering. Finally solved the problem and yesterday I have a new problem. The car will not start. It registers the key fob, dash lights comes on, but when I push the start button, I hear 2 clicks and thats Iit. No light on dash, other than the engine light. After I let off the clutch, all the lights comes back on.
Im stump as I dont believe it to be the start for the reason when my cousin starter went out on his camry, it made a horrible grinding noise. I didnt hear that with the vette. Just 2 click and off.
My 3 possible options are A) the actual starter Iitself. B) The battery Iis no good. C) the switch behind the clutch pedal. Now heres where Iit gets weird, the battery *Appears* to be good. The cr runs and drived find 2 hours prior. Then Iit just quit out of nowhere. Also, on the way home (thankfully I got it Iin the garage before the car died) it was drving find, but when I shut the car off, there is a HUGE electrical smell coming from the battery side. It smells as if an electrical fire was about to start.
I havent had the issue to work on the car as of yet, but im *HOPPING* its just thw battery. I have some expwexperience with cars, but am no way a proprofessional. I *DREAD* a starter replacement. What are your opinions? I plan to get the battery tested later this week. Not sure if I will be able to get it load tested but will try. Should I even look into the starter/clutch switch at this point?
Check the battery with a load tester. If you do not own a load tester -- Most auto parts stores will do this for free. It won't take you 10 mins with some basic hand tools to get it out of the car. I'd put my bets on that being your problem.
Sounds like it's time to get under the Vette with a flashlight and check the wire harness going to the starter and the connections at the starter -
It is very likely you have a short - there is a frame wire harness protector for the harness down by the fire wall/frame next to the battery - check that to make sure that did not fall off and cut through the wires -
Check the connections at the battery and all the surrounding wires to the battery for any shorting or burnt wires -
Pull the fuse center top off and do the same, checking the wires -
The electrical smell you smelled is key to your problem - you just need to do some investigating -
beware of doing any type of business with thanh gnuyen from arizona paypa info datnguyen20090909@gmail.com this guy is a thief and i have all the email and txt to prove it! you better start another profile guy because I'm going to blast this **** all over!!!
For future dealings on the great web be sure to use a major credit card or paypal (never friends and family) for purchases. They will return your money and seek to recoup the loss themselves. I'm sorry this happened to you.
cleaned up hijacking, arguing and other unrelated stuff....take it to the proper forum....if you continue the hostility there I will close that and you can take it offline
So here the situation. Went through 2 batteries today. One walmart which turned out to be a dud. The an optima yellow top. The load test at 550 is 11. Still nothing. The car clicks once them bam all the nothing. Lights goes dark and turns back on.
Im starting lean towards the starter. Heres the bigger issue. I managed to start it and drove it around down a bit. Thought everything was fine, went to mother in law house, and now its dead right across the street.
I had the same situation with a C5 I owned. After a new battery, starter, I found the alarm relay was bad.... believe it or not. I don't know if the C6 is the same.
Yes, under the hood. Not sure if it was the connection, the internals or what but she said the mechanic knew exactly what is was based on her description of the problem. In her case it would start by wiggling the fuse box.
So when i hold the acc down for 10 sec and the dic reads 11.9 with the engine off. Im wonder if its still possible the battery is still too weak to start the car? I understabd at 12.6 is when its fully charged and 11.2 the car wont even try to start. Is 11.9 sufficient? I do have an aftermarket head unit if that makes any difference.
Not very electrically inclined so this whole issue has been a head ach.

The fuse box is bolted to the car, should i undo the bolt and wiggle the whole box, or should i remove the top half and wiggle that part?
Jack the car up, confirm good power at starter, then jumper the solenoid at the starter. If it cranks each time you jump it, then you know the starter is good. Clicking starter means replace. Id start with the most likely things like the starter before I would jump to assume some oddball wiring problem.

When you turn on the ignition, the DIC voltage is being pulled down by the load of all the computers etc...so don't worry about this voltage.
And you said that you are not electrically inclined, if so, don't mess with the main fuse box. This is asking for trouble.
Ok so i couldnt jack the car up to check the starter itself due to it sitting on asphalt, however i did get to fiddle with it a bit yesterday and i believe i have isolated my problem.
I am 90% sure that the starter is good, however the wire is bad. I traced the wired from the battery heading to the starter, only got as far as pass the headers, when i realized, the wires are exposed and the plastic thats normally wrapped around the wire is burnt through. My conclusion is that the wires are burtn, hint the electrical smell, and that the started isnt getting the full voltage from the battery during start up.
GM thought it was smart to put the wires resting on the headers and not protect it with heat wraps. Anyways due to the current location of the car, i cant get under it. Do you my garage being on top of an incline, i dont think ill have it tow to my house. So off to the shop it goes. Will be heading to the shop today to speak with a mechanic. Hope the bill wont be to high just to fix this wire.
