Default First time owner looking for advice!

Hey everyone! Super excited to be here as a first time Corvette owner! I had an awesome 2012 Mustang 5.0 (no haters please, I'm a CAR guy not only a vette guy!) but a Nissan Altima didn't notice the yield sign and destroyed by car. Finally found a 2010 Grand Sport (completely stock) and I'm crazy in love so far! I knew the Mustang platform forwards and backwards and was very active on all of the forums but completely new with all of this so here's what I was really wanting to know. What mods do you feel like really made a difference and which ones to stay away from? I'll be doing exhaust and throttle body most likely but will not have any interest in nitrous or supercharging. This will be a weekend car that will see some HPDE time. Anything y'all have to add would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Your Throttle Body is just fine. Buy a Vitesse Throttle Controller set it on 9 and hold on.

Welcome. Best mods for C6 for the money. Cold air intake- vararam, exhaust, good dyno tune. The LS motors do well with these basic mods. Please post up some pictures!
Congrats.

Thanks for the info! I will start looking at tuners in the Dallas area. Are mail order tunes any good or is dyno the only way to go?

Welcome to the forums and good to see that you've finally got yourself a real car! Sorry, just messing with you on the car thing.
First and foremost, get yourself a good set of long tubes and a tune. The exhaust manifolds on the LS3 cars are crap and look like a carryover from the seventies. You can get good or bad mail order or dyno tune. It all depends on who you get, and whether he's a tuner or a "tooner".
With the right headers/exhaust and a good tune, you'll pick up power and increase your mileage.
Everyone goes straight for a "cold air intake", and you'll get plenty of confusing input on here about which one is "the best", etc., but the truth is that most of them don't make much of a difference without some modification to the radiator shroud to actually allow cold air to get to the filter, since the stock setup has the filter sitting in a sealed void at the front of the car that's connected to the engine bay.
Best thing to do is research - read up on these forums and don't be afraid to ask questions and PM people who look like they know what they're talking about.
And always provide as much info as possible about your car, as this allows folks on here to better advise you.
Remember, as with all other things, knowledge = power.
Good luck!

Mail order or dyno is only as good as tuner.
Mods are all over. Spending money on the interior, tires, brakes, suspension is well worth it before adding any power.

Exhaust is typically just for noise/looks. No reason to waste money on it unless you are unhappy with the noise or looks.

By Exhaust, I think most mean headers. They'll add 20 hp. The CAI will add 10 -15 hp depending on the one you choose. You should research for before and after results to make up your mind about which one is right for you. The tune and these two items will get you about 40hp. Then to go any further the price per hp goes up. You can get an intake manifold for another 10 hp if done right. Some say another 20 hp. And that will require another tune. After that its cam and heads, and another tune. Its a very slippery slope we all struggle with.

Thanks so much for all of the responses!! I'm definitely going to look into some long tube headers (had shorties on the mustang and regretted it), probably looking into getting them coated to reduce temps. Loved the corsa mufflers I had before so will be looking into those as well. Anyone have any luck with a ported throttle body? Could not be more excited to pick up the car this Saturday! Glad to be here!!!! Thanks again!!!

Welcome to the Corvette World!

I had a 83 GT 5 speed T top and 91 GT convertible before I could afford a Vette as well... no haters here!

Perhaps you'll find my thread on best bang for the buck mods interesting. I have dyno sheets and track results my mods as I layered them on. I strongly suggest you remove the airflow restrictions in the proper order, that way you'll get the max benefit of your mod money.

This is a great forum, pretty much any question you have ask up and it'll get answered.

Ported throttle body is a waste of money. I have one. Wish I had the money back and sometimes they fail.

Here's my thread.
