Default piston orientation question?

Hello
Iv just removed the head off one bank on my LS2 and the pistons look very coked up but more worried about the gaps around the piston....
It seems to be way over to the right and to me doesn't look right.
Iv attached a pic, can anyone give their opinion on what they think?
Cheers

That piston is at the bottom of the stroke which is where they will rock the most. I wouldn't sweat the orientation. If you had a issue with the rings or something else piston-related that was serious, you'd have smoke, severe blow-by, etc. The carbon build-up does look a little rich, but it' hard to say without knowing how many miles you have on it.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Its a 2005 with 110,000 miles,
i though maybe its a stuck ring causing it to be forced over,
so if i hand crank it over, it should even up in the bore as it rises?
Dont have any smoke issues but have a light tapping sound on 2000k revs +
hence why head is off as there was a drop in compression on one cylinder so having valves checked, re-seated and new seals lifters and pushrods but then noticed the piston which worried me, would you say it looks reasonably normal?

I'm definitely not an engine builder, but I've assembled a couple and have pulled quite a few heads. I think you are on the right track to bring the piston the TDC before making any assessment about its orientation in the bore. That amount of carbon is probably about right for 110k miles. I've heard piston slap before, and I've always thought it sounded much more pronounced than a tap.
