Default Hinson Shifter Install

So, after much searching on the board I decided to take the plunge and order the Hinson shifter for my 08 base C6..

THE GOOD:
The shifter arrived quickly and I installed the very next day.. It was a very straight forward install and I couldn't wait to get out on the road.. All I can say is I LOVE this shifter and the way it feels.. It is very stiff and bit notchy, but I like it like that.. It actually makes the car much more fun to drive..

THE BAD:
I have a terrible rattling sound coming from the shifter.. I was sure it was from my stock **** so I ordered a Hinson **** to go on the stock shaft I chose from Hinson.. The new **** came in today, but the loud rattling hasn't gone away.. I was very bummed, as now I'm into this thing for quite a bit of coin. I do love it, but the sound is loud on acceleration..

I called Hinson and spoke with Brian on the phone.. He couldn't be a better guy to work with.. Not sure if he is the owner, or a sales guy, but he is surely an asset to the company.. He informed me that this was a problem with some of the earlier model shifters, but should be fixed by now and maybe my car just wont work with this shifter.. He is trying a few fixes with his own personal C6 that has one of the older shifters with the known rattling problem.. I am waiting to hear back from him, hopefully this Friday, to see if we can find a resolution.. I have my fingers crossed because I really love it, but the rattling sound would make it a no go in my car..

Anyway, just wanted to put out my experience so far with this shifter and I will update as we figure it out.

I had the same issue. I went to the local hardware store and bought a better bolt to tighten the **** a little more.
It fixed the issue. There is a very slight and I mean very slight rattle but it's faint because of the drone. Not sure if it will help your situation but it did mine. I could feel the rattle in the **** and if I squeezed it tight enough it would go away. Hopefully you get it figured out.

My rattle is loud.. I did think it was the ****, but have now ruled that out with the new **** on.. I even electrical taped the shifter post before installing the ****.. Brian never even called me back from Hinson, so I guess Ill call Monday and return it.. Its just too loud to deal with on acceleration and him never calling me back as promised is all I need to know.. Ill try the MGW.. Appreciate the info.

Just another update: Never heard back from Brian at Hinson, I guess they have some bad weather and he wasn't able to test out the new shifter on his C6.. SOOOO, I will be sending back the Hinson shifter and maybe try my luck with another shifter.. Brian said he will stand behind the product and except the return, so hope all goes well. Will be back in town Wednesday and pull the shifter back out of the car.

I have the Hinson STS as well, and my first one rattled like a rock in a can. After tearing it down and isolating where the rattling was coming from (even went so far as to JB Weld / epoxy the shift **** on to prevent any movement at all) through many tests, it turned out to be the internal "sphere" in the spherical bearing that was out of tolerance. The tolerance between the bearing and the housing was off just enough to allow for vibrations to occur.
After speaking with Brian, we agreed that an exchange could be made. The new shifter that is in there has all but eliminated the rattle (there is a faint rattle if you put your ear on the center console in the cup holder, but beyond that, nothing). Perhaps some sort of coating could be applied to the bearing to keep it from rattling around.

I went through a similar process with using electrical tape under my shift ****..I think you are right on with maybe applying some kind of coating to bearing might help out and I believe Hinson is thinking the same way.. Never hearing back from him on Friday was a bit of a bummer and it has kinda turned me off on the shifter.. Ill try out the MGW and see if it is better..
