Does anyone know if I can add steering wheel radio controls if I replace the steering wheel with one that has the controls on it?
I don't currently have any buttons on my steering wheel, but would like that convenience of steering wheel controls.
My car currently has an aftermarket Pioneer Navi/DVD unit, which I am actually going to be giving to the wife, and will be upgrading my complete system, which is what got me thinking about this.
I figure I might be able to install the steering wheel with controls, and also install whatever aftermarket adapter would normally be required to retain steering wheel control functions. I'm just not sure if there are other areas that would need to be changed; e.g. wire harness, bcm, etc...
That link was very helpful. Looks like it's just three parts to make it work. Granted, I want a new steering wheel also [as mine is looking rough]. I am glad it appears do-able
You are going to have to buy a new wheel with controls as your wheel with no controls does not have the harness needed that plugs into the clock spring and its not available to buy separately
Also you need to check your clock spring to see if you have the 4 pin type (six for an auto)
I know you have an aftermarket radio but if converting a stock radio you might also need to reprogram the BCM with a TECH II . ( my 2011 which is on the new "Can Bus ,did not need this but some earlier models do )
