Default Intro and Tech question

Morning! first post for me in a Corvette forum... I just recently switched over from a highly modified Mustang (all my past experience is with Firebirds and Mustangs). 2 days ago I picked up a 2010 Corvette, not the GS but whatever the base would be called. As of right now there are no modifications and seems to be completely stock.

The dealership is about 3 hours from where I live.. Tuesday I made the trek and traded my beloved Mustang in on a pretty good deal. Test drive went great and the car seemed perfect so we closed the deal. upon driving home about 20 minutes down the highway I got the dreaded check engine light. I turned back and they scanned it for a bad O2 sensor (passenger back). They replaced it and all is well.

I noticed last night that sometimes when I start the car the exhaust has a loud drone to it and the throttle isn't as responsive. This seems to come and go with no exact pattern. No check engine light, just the drone. If I punch the throttle it will still go like a bat out of hell, its more noticeable while driving in town.

When it seems to be running "normal" the exhaust is extremely quiet and throttle is responsive.

I am just looking for any ideas before I make the big trip back to the dealership (with the chance of the potential issue not showing).

This looks like a great community and I look forward to joining. I was pretty active in the S197 and Mustang forums.

Dustin,

Go around the back of the car and look at the exhaust. If you look inside the ones that are on the inside of the car you might observe what looks like a flap that should be open when you start the car. If you see that as well as a perforated look inside the pipes then you have the NPP option.

Basically these are an option that is vacuum operated. They are open when you start car and close again to give you a quiet idle.
When you take it out on the road and hit around 3500 RPM's it open the flap to give you a louder sound. Suppose to give you approx. 6 more hp.

If you want it to be loud all the time you can remove the fuse which is located under passenger side front leg area. There are posts on this.

You can also buy a Mild to Wild switch which will allow you to control if it closed or open at push of a button.

It sounds like you have NPP and can also validate by looking in the glove box which is hard to see at the back of it a list of all your options.

Hope this helps you out.

JB

I originally answered No NPP but have since realized I had to look deeper into the pipe (not the end) I do indeed have it and that's what it was. thanks so much!

Someone installed a Mild To Wild device. Follow the wire and there should be a switch of some kind. Or look around the interior for a switch seems out of place. Or some people hook it up to all sorts of things like the OnStar button.
