My 2016 had less than 1000 miles. The oil level showed 35%. The oil looked good on the drip stick. The dealer said that that % was a continuation of many factors. So what's the real worth of having the % indicator?

From my understanding a 2016 Corvette is a C7 generation Corvette. This is the C6 section of the forum, I'm assuming someone in the C7 section would be better suited to answer your question.
I can answer but you should be posting in the C7 General Forum.
The C7 Oil Life Monitor is an enhanced version of the one used in the C6. Besides all of the normal algorithms the C7 added "Passage of Time" to the calculation. So it will count down to 0% over 365 days even if you don't drive it. The recommendation has always been to change the oil at least once every year regardless of mileage so the C7 oil monitor now includes that.

Wow! So a C7 sitting on a dealer lot for 3 months before being sold will start out with 25% of it's oil life sold to the devil.
I don't know about other states, but in AZ that could be considered wasteful use of a finite resource and subjected to a fine.
Of course, as part of the dealer's final prep and filling the gas tank, pushing the reset button would be the SOP. I'd guess there would be a lot of that going on by owners too.
