If you've been following along on the other threads, you know I'm restomoding a 67 with an LS7 engine. I've come up with the unpopular idea of converting it to an L88 look by changing the intake to allow air to come in from the top like a carburetor, keeping it EFI, and adding the L88 air cleaner on top. The parts to make that happen all exist except for a low rise intake. Thus far all I can find are "performance" intakes, which apparently means "tall". Eight plus inches is all I've found. That'll kill the idea by itself, as I don't plan to change the hood height. I'd like to maintain the level of performance and don't feel the need to enhance it. Is there anything out there that's substantially shorter? I can't find it.
how about using a LS7 carb manifold (GM 25534394?) adding a air only throttle body and the L88 style air cleaner assembly? This manifold uses a 4150 Holley pattern and I'm sure some one makes a fly by wire throttle body.

I'm not clear on where the injectors go on that set up. The carb intake won't have injector ports.
It does say right there "also available with injector bosses". That would work, but the height might still be an issue. I think at this point we'll just have to wait and see how much "headroom" is available between the hood and the top of the stock intake. Stock intake is about 7" above the valley. I'm not sure how tall this intake is, but you'll have to put a throttle body on top of that, and the air cleaner on top of the throttle body. It seems unlikely to work, but L88s got it all under there, so it might just work. Thanks for the tip!
The air cleaner for a L88 sits inside the hood scoop. Only the base, the foam seal, and screen are on top of the carb. Are you using a L88 hood? How about an aftermarket hood with a taller stinger?

There are parts available to covert a stock hood to an L88. There would be some extra room there. I'd want to stay with a stock looking hood from the outside. I'll just have to wait until the fenders are on, then we can put the hood on and see what kind of room we've got.
