How much damage to brake system if dot 5 fluid used in system? Can it be flushed out?

Ouch! I hope you mean DOT 5.1 and not DOT 5. DOT 3/4/5.1 are all glycol-based fluid and compatible with each other for all intents and purposes. DOT 5 is silicone-based and most definitely NOT COMPATIBLE with the glycol-based fluids. If you have indeed added a silicone-base brake fluid to your system, I'm guessing you're looking at a full flush&replace scenario.

IIRC, the biggest problem with DOT 5 is the ABS can create a foam-like condition when activated.

Check on the roadracing forum, since I'd guess someone there has also had that problem.
