Default Replacing half shaft... Can I mix and match c5 & c6 parts?

speaking of the half shaft itself. I know the c5 units are interchangeable and much more durable. My question is, if I'm replacing just one, can I use a c5 unit whilst leaving the c6 oem halfshaft on the opposite side?

That only applies to certain years. 05-07. Other ones cannot use c5 axles.

If you have a compatible year then yes you can mix

My understanding is that these are compatible through 2008 which is when they changed the c6 half shaft design. Is that an incorrect understanding?

When C6 half shafts are listed, they are listed as 05-13, so I assume they are all interchangeable.

From what I've seen, some 2008s fit, some do not. They changed somewhere in the year.

No, not all c6 axles are interchangable. They changed the splines on the hubs, so there is no way they are going into the hubs.

If you have a 06-07 then when an axle brakes, put in c5 axles. If you have an 08+ you have good axles already, and don't need to anything.

thats odd. Even gene culley's site lists them as 05-13. I have an 08, but I need my drivers side axel replaced. This isn't preventive maintenance. Mine got damaged.

Don't know where you live, but I have a set of C5 and C6 in my garage if you want to check. The bearings also changed at the same time.

05 to 08 model year should be the same as C5.

All C5 axles are the same.

My understanding is that the change was in 2009, but could be that some late 08's have the newer style. Not sure on that one.

this is my understanding as well. Anyone have a definitive answer on this? And are they still interchangeable? I assume it's just a beefed up version of the same part design

The C5 were made different and are just stronger. I know for sure they are interchangeable because I was running one of each for bit. Mines an 07.

thanks. This is what I was looking for. You're saying you ran a c5 on one side and a c6 on the other, right?

C5 axles are 5 bearing versus 3 bearing in earlier years of C6 and that's why they are stronger

From my experience 97-08 all use the small outer spline axles. I have yet to run into an 08 that had the larger spline (not saying it isnt possible, I just havent seen it yet).

One thing that I have ran into is the 09-13 base model cars have the same small axles that the 05-08 C6 have.

The 09-13 Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 I have seen all use the large outer spline.
