Default Help NEEDED! 4L60E or 4L65E? Which filter?

Dear Gurus,

I am in the process of pulling out the radiator and putting in a Racing all aluminium item from Dewwitt and would like to change all fluids and the harmonic balancer while i am at it. Here comes my question. I am absolutely clueless if my transmission is a 4L60E or 4L65E. When i LOOK at the transmission pan it's got a swirl pot bulging out at the bottom and was told its a 4L65E cos of that.

I got AC Delco Dexron 6 (13 Litres due to the bigger radiator). And am in the process of ordering a Transmission kit. Surprise surprise, the supplier told me i cannot supply you the kit because your model is one of those "ambiguous models" that had a filter for that specific year and model only!!!!

So here come the questions:

- I am really not sure what filter to order. AC Delco says that my VIN (with a U in it) got this special filter

- I am also unsure if its a 4L60E or 4L65E since i wish to buy n replace the shift solenoids and i need to know which tranny i got.

I went for this radiator cos the old one started leaking and scared the s&&t out of me as I'm now thinking that the fluids might have mixed.

Your help is really appreciated. I know that this might be a silly question but i am still a beginner when it comes to these fabulous machines.

Regards
Al

To add up to this there seems to be discussion the following has been dug up.

- It seems like all C6's came with 4L65-E (as per GM quotation)
- the 05 had a specific transmission only for this build year and was changed in later years why?
- The RPO code M32 indicates that its an Electronic Auto transmission. M32 was said to indicate the presence of 4L65-E while an M30 would indicate a 4l60-E but am not sure if this is correct.

how does one to tell what transmission is in there? Is there any way to recognise the 4L65-E or is there some number i could find on it?

More confusion !!

all 05 auto cars came from factory with the 4L65E.only way it would be different is if someone had swapped out your transmission.did you have car since new?trany was changed later year because they went from 4 speed to 6 speed with paddle shift with slight increase in fuel mileage.your 4 speed is stronger than the 6 speed, less costly and easier to work on and modify.you could check trany case for any stickers or casting numbers on it that say MXO and M32.Check same for 8 digit P/N (part number) and google it
