Car acted up today. Went to start my 07z and it wouldn't turn over, just clicked.i just had a new key programmed and the techs had a heck of a time getting the key programmed but it now works. What do you think this could be?

Nope
I will lay money on bad solenoid. Save yourself a lot of aggravation, buy a starter
I figured it would be the starter. Damn thing goes through them like crazy. My voltage is fine at start up, when I turn the audio on it drops if I'm at a stoplight. Should probably get both. What starter for high heat?
The starter motors usually last a loooong time, but the solenoids die early due to heat and/or if the cable is stressed. The problem is the bakelite cracks around the main post and the electrical connection is broken.
To test for this cause, see if you can wiggle the cable at the post. If yes, then simply replace the solenoid. If you're handy to replace your own, you can buy one on Amazon for under $30. Otherwise, take the starter to an auto electric shop and they'll install one for around $40. When you reinstall the starter, be sure there is slack in the cable to the battery to allow for engine movement, or you'll be doing it over fairly soon.

The guy who just did my rear main seal said that the starter cable is tight. So does that mean a salenoid should be the problem or just buy a whole new starter.
I tight cable isn't good for the solenoid and bakelite. Relieve the stress in the cable get a new solenoid and you should be good. With wrapped headers and wrapped starter, the starter will last a long time. just replace the solenoid. A good starter generator rebuilder can source the solenoid for you if you can't find one.
I'll be doing that tomorrow guys, I appreciate the help. i'll let you know how it goes. I want to be able to go racing tomorrow night so i'll have my hands full.

I was in the same boat last week , starter clicked on Thursday wanted to race on Friday.. Friday AM bought a new starter and installed it ....easy job

I'd suspect he overtightened the nut or left zero slack in the cable, either of which has caused your current problem. The torque spec for the nut is only 35 lb IN, not 35 lb FT.
Go to start the car today and it clicks a few times then fires up. My service charging light came on and my voltage when to 11 and car started to run crazy hot. Starter selinoid causing all this with the charging syste.?

A couple clicks and finally starting is pretty much convincing evidence that the solenoid is cracked and the post for the cable is loose. Since the charging system feeds through that same point, that's why you're getting the DIC message.
I hope you have a local source and wrap it up in time to race tonight.

Thanks guys. Time to get to work. I appreciate all the help
