Time for a new battery and don't want to pass up the chance to take 30lbs off the front wheels and maybe open up the engine bay for more stuff.
Not looking for the same power level as the OEM bat since the car is never driven when temps are under 40f or over 90f but do need reliable starts. If I need to run a 17lb Braile, then it's not worth the cost to save 15lbs so looking at their 9lb or 11.5lb units. Also thinking about relocating it to one of the storage compartments in the back and yes, running 0ga wire. Don't see much posted about running lightweight batteries and not sure how reliable they are, minimum amps required, how long they last or what other problems people have with these.
Budget < $300, not including wire which I have. Already have an AGM charger/tender
This thing is so small and light it's almost a joke, not even worth the extra weight transfer to mount it in the trunk. Running for about a month...so far so good. Any problems and I'll just use it in the tractor. Nice to take 32 lbs off the right/front wheel.
That's crazy small, looks almost like a lawn mower battery
I know.. LOL It's the same size as the battery in my John Deere Lawn tractor with a 22hp V twin motor. Crazy.
The play with the specs and claim over 1000 amps "pulse" power which is probably a useless spec but they have test results for each battery before they ship it out this one was 595 CA @ 13.05 volts compared 660 CA for the OEM battery so it's not that much lower. Car's garaged in the winter so don't have to worry about cold starts. $158 from TireRack with battery mount. Just hope it doesn't catch fire like those Hoverboards running lithiums from China
Pretty cool. I saw the other day that the next model of YZ450F dirt bikes are coming with electric start now and have like a 2lb li-ion battery or something crazy like that.. I guess batteries are so light now you could probably cancel out the weight of a kick starter and have happier owners.
Anyways. Yeah, pretty neat.

I installed a 5lb Shorai battery a few weeks ago and was surprised at how well it's been working so far, especially since it turns the motor over quicker than the full size OEM replacement did.
Pretty much, yeah. Just to play it safe I disconnect it right after I put the car into the trailer.
Christopher, I have had this same battery in my Z since the beginning of the year. When I don't drive the car for a week or so I simply plug in the trickle charger I bought with it. Just don't let the battery completely discharge or run it all the way down, as it may kill the battery entirely.

Having it on a trickle charger isn't an option when the car is stored which is why I just disconnect it.

I looked at the LFX and other lithiums but just couldn't justify spending $300+ on a battery to trim off another 6 lbs. but that's the one to go with if you can disconnect the load. All the crap on my setup draws about 100ma so I have a connection next to the tow tab and just tender it whenever its going to sit for more than a week.
