Welcome to the Forum !!! If you hang out here a little I think you'll find that there are people with a tremendous amount of knowledge that are more than willing to share what they've learned.

I have some experience with a auto GS. The factory programming isn't bad - but there are some times when the programming is trying to save gas - not maximize smiles. If you use the paddles, the car will automatically downshift if you don't once speed goes low enough - so no matter what - it won't let you start out from a dead stop in 4th.

About the only two negative things I can say about the auto trans is that 1) DIY stuff is nearly impossible - the only way to check the trans fluid level is to get the trans temp into a specified window, get the car up on a lift, and with the car running and in gear - remove a plug from the pan. Clearly not something a DIY'er can handle. and 2) while on the subject of trans fluid temp - the fluid can easily get over 200 deg in relatively mild traffic on an 85 degree day. Supposedly - the fluid is a synthetic that can handle the higher temp better than older fluid - but I personally think Chevy should have put an external cooler on the cars - not just the cooler that is part of the radiator... If you search the forum - you will find some threads where owners have installed external coolers to address the problem.

While I'm typing - I strongly recommend looking through the threads here about the Goodyear Run Flat rubber the GS C6's come with. They are notorious for wearing out at less than 12,000 miles, and as they get worn, the car's handling can get truly ugly (ask me how I know this). Many people replace the Goodyears with Non-run flat rubber which is much cheaper, and IMHO tends to perform better. Just be aware that at 7,500 miles you are probably looking at a four digit tire bill in the very near future.

Finally on the subject of track days. I am an instructor with a local BMW club, so I do know a little bit about what goes on at a High Performance Driving Event (HPDE). If you attend a HPDE, you will be put out on the track with other drivers that have about the same skill level (in your case - beginners) - and there will be an instructor in the car with you. The only passing that goes on at these events is with the car that is being passed giving permission - by pointing out the window - and passing is allowed on straight aways only (in real racing - almost all passing is done approaching or actually in the corners). There are also classroom sessions that you will be attending and they will be emphasizing safety !!!! The first day - the on track emphasis is normally on getting a feel for the cars capabilities. We will encourage you to use the car's braking capability, and to learn "the line" at the track. You will also be encouraged to use full throttle down the straights - so expect to leave the track with a big smile on your face. Most clubs are fine with a club member being a spectator at an event - so if you're not sure - go to a HPDE and watch before you sign up to attend one... Finally - talk to your insurance company - the rules vary - but in most cases - your regular insurance policy WILL NOT cover you on a race track. (You can count on signing liability waivers for the club and for the track at any HPDE.) There are companies that offer insurance for track days - but it can be pricey.

GOOD LUCK !!!

I was just searching through some of my old posts and came across this thread. I can't believe I never updated you guys on my search for my first Vette.

In December 2017 I bought a '12 G.S., A6, 4LT. Billy Boat Fusion exhaust. Velocity yellow w/yellow calipers, back up camera, curb alert, 12,850 miles with platinum extended warranty. From a fellow forum member.

I freakin' love this car.
