Default Standard or underdrive pulley? HP difference?

I'm changing the wobbly crankshaft harmonic balancer and pulley and was contemplating putting on an underdrive pulley. Is there a benefit?

I personally feel that the 5-10 hp difference isn't worth the lower voltage levels..

I have the ATI UD balancer and at idle the voltage is a little on the low side but works great other than that.

Unless you already have most of the other performance mods and are looking for that last .01 second bump in your 1/4 mile time, there's not a benefit for a UD pulley that outweighs the negative for your electrical system.

Agree, I would not do an UD pulley on these cars. They're already borderline (at best) at having enough amperage at idle to run all the electronics and fan in particular

Would the electrical issue of the UD fully be offset by a higher amp alternator?

It certainly wouldn't hurt, though I always wondered if the higher amp units were more difficult to turn or not, which would negate some of the gains. In the end it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I've decided to go with a standard aftermarket harmonic balancer and pulley. Thanks for all our input.

It solved my low amp issue with my otherwise stock car...
