I'm wanting to remove my mufflers on my 2008 coupe. What's needed to put straight pipes in place of the mufflers? Is there a kit or certain exhaust tips I should purchase? I'll be going to a local muffler shop to have them check it out and would like to have some research done on it ahead of time. It'd be nice to add the mufflers back in if needed as well. What have you guys done? I'm just after a deeper louder sound than needing a whole new expensive exhaust. Thanks!

I went with Magnaflow mufflers with original tips welded on and they do have drone. Sound is real good to my old ears.Straight pipes maybe a different matter. The Magnaflows will give you the sound you are after. My "2 cents".
There have been a few on here who have done straight pipes. If I remember reading correctly, it was more of a custom job from an exhaust shop...in other words, no bolt on kit. May want to search around the site and web and see if you can get some recommendations.
Still a muffler. From your original post, you wanted to delete the muffler and just run straight pipes from your X pipe to the rear. You would just have pipes welded to the X pipe and bent over the axle and straight out the back with tips. Correct? These are more like the old school glass packs instead of a straight pipe.
Richard G....did you install one of these or 2? Seems like you would have had to install 2 to make the fit better. Each one would have a single in and a single out with dual tips. If you installed only 1, you would have a single in and single out with quad tips.

Yeah, originally wanting to do straight pipes from the X to the rear. But if these mufflers are pretty much a good loud sounding glass pack then maybe that'd be easier to put in place for the shop. I take it into the shop on Friday so they can look at it and give me an opinion on it as to what they suggest as well.
For my C7 (which I have sold), I merely got a muffler shop to
cut out the mufflers, and replace them with straight pipes (welded in).
I also bought a set of chrome dual tips from Corsa, which they then welded
to those pipes.
A great sound.
I went to a local muffler shop. They charged me 65$ to remove the mufflers, cut the tips off, bent new pipe and weld the tips back on. Best 65$ I've ever spent on a car. Sounds great inside and awesome outside. To me, no real drone. At 65 I can carry on a convo in normal tones without any problem.
My buddy is having his 2017 GS done this week because he likes mine so much, or because I make his sound like a Honda or something!! Haha

Sounded great. Curious, did you have headers on or the factory exhaust? This may be something I consider but dont want them welding to the X pipe as it is aftermarket.
I did this several years ago and took them off to satisfy the wife for a road trip. They have 4" tips and are an easy swap for the mufflers, if you ever want to switch back. PM me if you're interested.
I just cut my mufflers off and the tips off, then i had a local exhaust shop weld a form fit pipe where the muffler was then the exhaust tips. total cost: $110. and i love it. i saved over 900 bucks for an awesome sound. Im going open headers next
Heres what I did on my car. I had npp's but wanted to have a straight pipe for the track. So I ordered some 2.5 inch v band clamps on ebay. Got some flow master 4" dual tips and took it to a local exhaust shop to get fabbed up.

Hi David... You don't have any problem with those 4" tips melting the bumper at all? My tips are currently 3" stock.
Just got my car back from the muffler shop. The sound is amazing!!! It's just right with the straight pipe. I did the 4" dual Flowmaster chrome tips off of Amazon. The look is way better as is the sound. I don't know how I lived without the straight pipe all these years!

Thanks again everyone!
It is an awesome sound!! To me, it's how they should sound. It took me a few months before I could keep my foot out of the gas, it sounded so good!
Have fun and drive it!

Same here, surprisingly quiet until you stomp on it and then it sounds like a Corvette should sound.
