Started the car for a drive into town and noticed the red light on.
Thought maybe it would go off after starting it again. But it's still on.
In the past I have had various lights come on for no reason but go off after restarting, but this one is still on.
Do I need to take the car in to the dealer,, or is there something I can do to fix it.?
Car has 96k on it. And everything else is working great.
Check the connectors under the driver's seat. Seat movement causes them to loosen up, setting off the light. I zip-tied mine to prevent that and have not had the airbag light come on since. If you do a search I am certain there is a post with photos of the connectors.
As mentioned, it's is likely the connector loose. Zip tie may fix it. It has for many owners with the same issue.
If you dare visit a GM service department, there is a special coverage adjustment from GM on the connector under the driver seat.
The only problem with the fix is that cut away the connector and solder the wires together. It then makes it a real PIA if you ever want to remove your seat from the car for whatever reason.
