Default Help with Power Steering Issue

I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice on troubleshooting a problem with the Power Steering on my 2006 base M6.

I was driving along without issue when the "Service Vehicle Soon" message displayed. I noticed after that, that my steering became much heavier.

I left the car for about an hour and then came back to move it and the problem and message were gone. I checked the PS fluid and it was a bit low so I topped it off.

I drove to work in the morning without issue, but on the drive home the problem and message returned.

I checked for error codes on the OBDII port with 3 different scanners and got nothing.

It seems to me like the problem is one of 3 things. The steering rack, the computer controlling the resistance in the rack, or the connection between those two. So, any advice on how track this problem down short of taking it to the dealer?

*I originally posted this in the C6 general discussion section but didn't get any response, so I thought this was probably the better section. Sorry for the repost.

Thanks!

If you have an engine only scanner, it won't report an error code.
