I am interested in programming a keyless entry fob with the tech 2. The turn key in trunk lock 5 times within 5 seconds does not work. Has anyone done this with the tech 2. I don't see an option for it.

 

I have a Tech2 clone and as far as I know you can program a new fob with it although I've never done it and only used it once so far to read and cancel a CEL.

I've read the complaint about using the onboard setup procedure not working many times and ran into that problem myself when I finally got it to work on the 3rd attempt. When I got the car it came with 2 #2 fobs and only one of them gave access to the DIC programming since the original #1 fob was lost but still registered in the system which didn't allow for a 3rd set of individualization.

I found that my issue getting into the fob programming had several possible causes. I don't think I turned the key to the full extent of its travel every time. What I also found is that I had no display in the DIC indicating that it was ready to program fobs by the time I got into the drivers seat. When the programming is initiated you have a very short time window to respond with a press of the start stop button and if it times out on you it cancels the setup program.

On my second attempt I noticed that the ready message was still displayed in the DIC when I got into the seat but went blank before I could respond. On the third try I had everything prepared as much as possible and moved faster getting into the car and it worked. In the process it deleted the lost fob, set my new fob that I bought off ebay as my #1, set my #2 for the second driver and made my second #2 fob that was quite worn as #3 for a spare fob.

 

I think I am going to try to short the key lock wire if my Tech 2 plan falls through. I twisted that key a bunch of times with no response from the DIC.
