I have a 2007 LS2 Auto. It has Varam Snake CAI. Nick Williams 102, MSD Intake ported with a 102 opening. Cats are grouted out with remote exhaust, 160 deg stat. I want a BTR Cam but don't want to change my stall I want a small Cam with a little extra power down low and a great sound. Would a Stage 2 cam from BTR work without having to install a stall. and do I need the full springs and all
You mean the BTR LS1/LS2 Stage II cam? This one: https://www.briantooleyracing.com/ls...ge-ii-cam.html
With that kind of duration and 113* LSA, that’s going to have a fairly choppy idle and may lug a little bit in parking lots, etc. with the stock stall.
A good tuner could make it work with the stock converter, but that cam would really need some more stall speed to work properly, IMHO.
You would definitely need new springs and pushrods would be a good idea as well. Best thing to do would be to buy the whole kit.
Why are you afraid to change the converter? In terms of performance, the right converter could gain you more than everything you’ve done to your car to date plus the cam, and with a simple trans cooler, it would be as dependable as stock. Once it’s tuned properly with the right shift points and TCC lockup speeds, you’ll hardly notice it once the car is moving or cruising. Of course, you’d have to get used to the feel of the converter when you drive off from a standstill, but for me, that’s an easy trade off for that kick-in-the-*** feel when you really want to leave from a standstill. I would actually change the converter before changing the cam. Just my 2 cents, FWIW.
227/234 113 is 4.5* of overlap, which is a fair amount of overlap to idle at the stock idle speed. Something like a 222/230 113 +2 or +3 would be 0* overlap with an early IVC that would help low rpm power and provide some help with your restrictive exhaust. With decent tuning, it should idle with a decent chop.
Are you doing your own tuning? If not, talk with the person doing the tuning. They may have experience in what you're looking for. Patrick G has no doubt done these before and may be able to provide the tuning too.
I did give them a call they did recommend getting with my tuner in kc first to see if the stage 2 surge can be tuned out.
I am wanting to do my HB at the same time with headers so yes were gonna lean towards a 2 with a good tuner without a stall.

Ok right on that who I plan on using. How does it sound and what did you gain
It sounds great. Not a huge lope at idle like you would have with a bigger cam, but you can still tell it is cammed.
I didn't have it dyno'd prior to the cam so I don't know what the gain was from that specifically. But, I landed at 468 rwhp and 445 ft-lbs with full bolt-ons and cam.
Any reason you are avoiding a stall? It is pretty much hands down the best mod you can do on a modern auto car. The performance difference from a stall is far superior to a cam, and makes the car so much more fun to drive.
As for cams, you got it covered, but BTR is great and can suggest something great. I'm a huge fan of Pat G cams and having him spec one.
I have an auto ls3 with all boltons, ported throttle body and intake, 1.8 yella terra rockers. I am planning on the tick performance "stock stall" cam. Check it out on there site claim 40hp. I too want to stick with the stock stall had a vig 3600 in a c5 vette and didn't like all the slip when moving but wot it was a beast. Converter probably slow you down anyway if you don't have sticky tires. I have pirelli p zero iit hooks and goes
