Default Muffler Help--need quieter than Atax

Hi Vetters,

Have a 08 LS3 automatic. Love this car.

Previous owner put on Borla Atax.

The more I drive it, the louder it seems. At 70, I can't hear myself think.

Inventoried the Borla system, have Borla 3" stainless cat back, then 2 1/2" over the axle into those small Atax, about 6" diameter and maybe 12" long.

Have a buddy with stock mufflers with 2 1/2" from the X pipe back. One muffler tech says, "it might work?" He wasn't sure how to go from 3" to 2 1/2...so I drove on ...wrong shop

Will the stock go on? How do to go from 3" to 2 1/2" ???

Is there a "quieter" to fit the Borla over the axle pipe?

All advice on quieter is appreciated.

Thanks Charlie

I really like the Corsa sets I've had in the past. Sport is a little louder than stock and on par with the NPP option on the throttle but no drone. I've had Flowmasters and a couple of the other big name brands and Corsa wins hands down. It's a cleaver design straight through with holes that let the sound wave enter chambers that reflect the waves back canceling the noise.

Maybe give this Corvette Forum vendor a call? They probably know a whole lot more about Corvettes and exhaust.

Thanks Guys, I found a stock set and had them put on at the Buy A Vette service center.

Now it is too quiet. LOL. Maybe next month I will look for some Corsas. Thanks

I like my '08 Base model with the NPP exhaust system. I have the mild-to-wild conversion that works flawlessly, always has. No, it's not loud like the aftermarket systems, but it is loud enough that I can hear the LS-3 and it sounds good with the pop-back when I let off the gas. Drive it in the open mode most of the time unless I want to hear my audio system. If you look around you may be able to find one that has been removed from similar year-model.

Your system already steps from 3" to 2.5" per your description, so I can't see why it wouldn't work...although some photos would help. All it would take is a step down slip fitting at the rear end of your 3" mid-pipe, which would need a 2.5" ID to mate to OE 2.5" OD over the axle pipes.

I have the newer style Borla S Type II and it's a great sound. Quiet until you get on it, then a nice crescendo of sound and a great burble when you let off. If you like Borla that's the one to get.
