Your location would help since there are enough of us with Tech II's to pull codes to get to the bottom of if the ECM has to be replaced or not in the first place, or just a trouble code from something else that could be a quick fix instead.

As for if you do need to replace a Bad ECM, then dealer is going to charge you an arm and leg, and we have vendors here that do have used good E-40 ecm that they can program them to be dam near plug and play in the end.

As for the ECM, its in the back passages front fender well, behind the wheel well liner so only a few mins to pull one and put one back in, then you have the programming and relearn process as well.

that's what Auto Zone recommended.
Also the guy I bought the Vette from said his friend could use a device that would get rid of that code that is causing the engine light to come on.
I would think the inspection place would hook up their machine and find it regardless. Thoughts? The inspection machine could see that issue and fail me.

CAR not legal...
Yes, using HP turner, or even EFI live, you can go into the ECM code setting to turn off codes that would cause the trouble light to come on.
Hence the scanners that smog type stations use, will only pick up the codes that the car shows as signs of problems to turn the trouble light on in the first place. So problem code item set to not cause the trouble light to come on, the smog scanner will not see code; since it not being reported to the system as a problem trouble code in the first place at that level.

The glitch, although you shut off the trouble code reporting to not cause the dash light to come on, there still is a problem with it to throw a code in the first place.

So short of saying running headers that the rear O2 sensors should have been shut off, get someone one with a scanner like a Tech II that can pull all the engine and body codes, to figure out what code is being throw in the first place.

So again, what is your location, since there are lot of us with Tech II's and could drop by to pull your codes to help you figure out the problem. If it something stupid like the O2 thing with headers, enough of us have the needed programs to shut them off as well.

Would you happen to know anyone in the South California area? More specifically by Camp Pendleton/Oceanside areas?
Thanks
