Steering Rack Boot/pipes routing?
my driver side steering rack boot is ruptured, by the high pressure pipe. (See picture)
It looks like it's wrongly routed, insted of in front of it should go behind (towards the back of the car) in order to clear the dust boot!?
It's one of those PITA locations to access so any ideas before attempting to replace the boot itself?
If I disconnet the pipe and move it back ... the challenge will be to reconnect it to the rack head again.
Sorry for the photo being 45deg to the left
All the best
I have to look at mine, yet here's a bump.
Do you have a manual to indicate the routing?
I'd agree routing looks incorrect, yet how did it get incorrectly routed?
Just maybe...bend the pipe...use proper tools!
Anyway...bump.
I took a new look in my Service manual and now on page ”15-115” it looks like my pipe routing is incorrect.
So let’s see if you agree after looking at yours.
?? is then how much must be taken out to get access to the ”Variable Effort Steering Actuator”
Bending the pipes I’ve tried but there is no room for even a small ”bending device”

GM discontinued the short pressure hose. Now all C6s use the long version. The long hose should be routed like this:
