Looking at a nice, but high mile (100k) 2002 z06. Seller states that the oil pressure sender is bad. Gauge is maxed out on the dash when car is running. Is that where it should be with a bad sender? He states he has a new in the box sender that he hasn't installed yet. also just told me that he replaced the sender a year ago and it went out 6 months later. yes, it does sound fishy, but just wanted to know if his story is plausible.

My 2005 at 65,000 miles sending unit just went out. When and each time I start the car it goes straight 80 PSI, and the DIC shows at idle 110 PSI, not bothering to replace it!
If the pump not working engine would of seize by now!

It is unfortunately common for them to go out on these cars, so doesn't sound fishy at all to me. The gauge will be maxed out when it goes out.
With a little luck and small hands you can reach behind the intake and change the sensor but it's a little tricky (a lot of people say it can't be done, I've done it.. it can be done). Worst case the intake has to come off or at least moved enough to get access. Not difficult, can be done in an hour or so.
Don't over tighten the sensor
