Hello. I just had at a set of SLP long tube headers with the X pipe and high flow catalytic converter’s installed on my C6 Corvette. When I rev up the engine I get a strong hint of a gasoline smell. Any ideas why? Is that normal? Thanks
I think it may come with the territory. I got all my stuff done at one time so I don't know if it may just be that way but I have a little gas smell and I'm tuned also and have cats. I have American racing headers.
I recently had Billy Boat headers and X pipe with cats installed and have the same experience. I am not tuned yet and was hoping it would take care of the fuel smell but it sounds like it won't.
Why would there be a "normal" gas smell after headers, cats and a tune? If it's running really rich maybe but that's what the tune takes care of, no? The only thing I can think of is a leak somewhere. Hey, I hope I'm wrong. But I've been in cars w. headers and a tune-no gas smell.
your after market cats along with 02 sensors and their location are nowhere near as efficient as the factory set up even though the factory tune is usually much richer
Thanks for the feedback. I spoke to my mechanic who installed my headers today. Hey says the gas smell may just be stronger exhaust because the high flow cats are not as efficient at cleaning up the exhaust.
I am going to take my car back to have them check it out to make sure I don’t have a gas leak and to retune my car to see if that cleans up the gas smell. I’ll let you know what happens. Thanks
