I'm rebuilding my Ls7 from a cracked block situation. the crank has been turned but do I need to have it re Nitride coated ?
I got a quote from techmetals for 800 dollars with either titanium or chromium nitride and with that kind of cash im questioning if its really necessary. I would also rather not buy a new crank as this one is balanced for my set up
I would worry more over tolerances instead usually when you turn a crank your tolerances suffer from journal to another which is why I stick with a new crank for a new build every time.
I agree with xBoostx ^ I would question the quality of the nitride coating and its true benefits. Back in the days of standard mineral oils I have no doubt nitride worked but today with synthetic oils and the availability of cranks new would be my choice if I wasn't sure. Did a quick search and a new LS7 crank {Eagle} is under 900.00 with rotating assembly's going for around 1300.00
