Default Occasional Active Handling message

I've owned my 2009 Z06 since July of 2011. Bought the car from Original owner with 6k on the Odometer. The car now has 36k on it.
Recently I've experienced the Active Handling kicking in when making left turns with the wheel turned at 30+ degrees usually at speeds over 35 mph.
Had a friend with a Tech II come over to help me diagnose the issue. Both the yaw sensor and the steering position sensor showed no faults but there was a correlation error between the 2 sensors.
Assuming it was the steering position sensor I started to gain acces to the lower end of the column and heres what I found.
No work has ever been done on the column prior to me getting under there.
There is no way that the bearing can just pop out of the retainer. It was NEVER installed correctly from the factory

When you had the Tech II on the car, and checking the Steering column position sensor readout as you where turning the steering wheel, should have picked up on the problem when the voltage was not changing for the steering wheel sensor as you turned the steering wheel each way, and/or, the steering wheel sensor would not zero out with the steering wheel straight again.

As for once you get into the steering column part, should be easy to figure out what part gave up the ghost and needs to be replaced.

Also, before you reconnect the column to the steering rack, make sure that the steering wheel position sensor is reading O with the wheel/tires straight. Hence you can clock the steering position sensor a full rotation out when you connect the column back up to the steering rank, and will cause problems. If the voltage is reading +, then the column shaft is turned one rotation to the right clockwise, while if it reading on the -, then the shaft is spin one rotation left/counter clockwise isntead.

Did you have the cam or harmonic dampener changed? the steering positioning sensor retainer usually gets displaced as you are showing in the video when the steering rack is moved for a dampener removal with out disconnecting the steering shaft from the rack and pinion assembly during the process.

The sensor retainer you are moving around with your fingers just need to be snapped into it's retaining position and the occasional Active Handling notice will go away for good and the bearing will stay in the bracket cup.

(No thing is broken at the present time)

The only thing needed is with the steering in straight up position to align the sensor retainer to is correct position bearing in place, apply some silicon spray to both parts to aid in getting it to snap in to place.

Let us know how this worked for you good luck, David.

Dano The Steering position sensor was being kept from rotating by 1. the plastic under dash cover and 2. the wiring harness connected to the sensor. Nothing was broken under there.
XBoost The lower bearing was never snapped into its retainer there is no way to dislodge the bearing with the column assembled. The column has to be removed from the car to install that bearing as there is no way to apply enough force to the bearing to get it to snap into its retainer.
Car is all back together and exhibits no problems now.
Pics are of lower bearing and how it is held in place along with steering position sensor
Order of pics is kind of jumbled

Column as removed from car you can see where the bearing is supposed to snap into

Steering position sensor retainer

Steering shaft bushing and snap ring in place
