Default Supercharger Question

Hi there, I'm an original owner of my 08 C6 Z51 6sp w/ 25K miles. I have it for 10 years now so am thinking it's time for a blower. I'll stay mostly at low rpm range but do want to get on it every now & then so which setup & price range would you guys recommend? I do lots of work on cars but haven't installed a blower before so is this something that I can do myself or do I really need a good installer/tuner? If so, do you know of any good shops in SoCal LA or Orange County? Thanks in advance.

A&A Corvettes in Oxnard. I drove down from northern CA and had them install a CARB certified V3 si blacked out centri on my 08 a few years back. Car runs great and they do a very good job on the install. Call Andy, owner, or Josh to discuss which set up is best for you. They have great customer service and will put together a kit for you, install and tune it. You will need a CARB certified kit for CA bi-annual smog inspections. I have passed twice with no issues.

Thanks Mike. May I ask how much you've paid for the install? Btw, you've mentioned CA bi-annual smog inspections. Is this done at the smog check shop or you have to take it into the DMV for inspections? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks again.

All- Need some more inputs on the 3 centri, roots & screw supercharger types for the C6 as well as turbo. Do you also know of any other shops in LA or orange county? Thanks.

Hello,

Edelbrock has a supercharger kit for your car with a canned tune you can load yourself. Looks like a weekend project with the hardest part of the job would be to pin the crank, you have the option of changing the fuel pump if you want an additional 50 HP. 550HP without the fuel pump replacement. Whole thing costs about $7500.

Bi-annual smog inspections are done at certified smog stations, no need to go to DMV.

Centri's will build boost and power as you get into the mid and upper rpm range vs Roots/Screw type which boost begins at a lower rpm, builds, then levels out or reduces in the upper rpm range. Roots/Screw type will have a higher discharge temperature vs Centri.

For what you want to do, I would highly recommend that you also consider the Magnuson Heartbeat. They’re located in Ventura, so not so far away from you. Lots of threads on here about them. I admit I’m biased and that I may have kinda got carried away with mine, but if you want a simple, complete (I mean right down to color-coded hose clamps complete) DIY kit that you can easily do by yourself (except for lifting the blower onto the motor) over a weekend, without pulling the front off your car or cutting body panels or worrying about overheating, heat-soak (anyone applying that term to a Heartbeat is FOS) etc. then that’s the way to go. It is pricey though, compared to the centrifugal kits, which can’t be beat for “bang for the buck”, but the front mounted intercoolers do compromise cooling a bit more and require methanol injection or E85 to fully utilize their full potential.
Now, if you wanted an all out *****-to-the-wall street/drag car that would be capable of running 9s on drag radials, then I would recommend a centrifugal blower kit from ECS or A&A and a methanol kit.

Ci GS- It's good to know there are many options available out there for the C6's & yes, my goal is seeking for more HP but at the same time trying to minimize the tear down or cutting as much as possible. Thanks for your input.

If you don’t d I’ve your car hard and take it often above 4,000 rpms in any gear don’t buy a centri blower. I had a centri blower before if I could food it all over I would go turbo or roots blower for the instant torque.

I'm very satisfied with my A&A. But I also had a very reputable mechanic re-tune afterwards and I have 555 hp at rear wheels.

I go an A&A kit from Andy 5 yrs ago for $4.5k and $1.8k to install and dyno tune. I couldn't pass on that deal! Also added meth injection and 85lb injectors with an aggressive tune. CAT delete and Corsa exhaust. Making 640 to ground now. I have 93k miles on motor and about 60k miles on blower with no problems.
