Default EBCM Replacement

Hi All,

Wondering if there any instructions on how to replace the EBCM on my 05 Vert?

The car was displaying the Service Active Handling and ABS on DIC and yes it had the comb inserted in the steering column sensor.

I took the car to the dealer to read the codes and see what they say since I had a credit for $70 in the service department.

They told me the EBCM needs to be replaced and programmed as it has an internal short. They quoted me a price of $1700.00 which is ridiculous to me.

Any advice is appreciated! (I think )

Update - They want $320 to install and program if I bring in the part and $130.00 to just program it.

How your wrenching/ soldering skills????

Control box on the side of the EBCM can be removed with the unit in place, the boards checked for cold solder joints to be re soldered, then the control box reinstalled. Done this way, the ECBM controller does not have to be reflashed.

Hence if a ECBM controller goes bad, then one of the chips in the board will fry, and will not be a sporadic thing, but the controller not working at all instead.

Also, with the connector disconnected to begin with, gives you a chance to clean the connector pins on the connector and EBCM socket with spray contact cleaner to resolve a pin corrosion problem, and where the problem may be to begin with.

Short of that, then Welcome to dealer corvette tax for repairs, Hence the E ticket price for repairs.

For you younger guys, where E ticket terming may be going over your head,

Thank you and my skills are adequate so I got a used one and pulled off the CM but it looks pretty bad (corroded) so probably going to return it and pull mine off and check the solder joints and reinstall.

That's the valve side, so stems can be cleaned up, and the electromagnetic solenoid bodies that the valve stems ride in, can be cleaned with spray contact cleaner. Hence when a the coils is energized, it pulls the valve stem inwards into them to close the ABS valve.

Its the board that needs to be pulled out of the case, to check the solder joints on it isntead. Hence when GM solder baths the board to solder it on shot, the longer header pins will draw a lot of heat, and can cause colder solder joints instead. So where you often find the solder joint problems, is the longer header pin instead.

Once you pop the board out of the case, take photos of both sides of the board in detail and post them, and I can help you find the joints that need to be re-solders. Also, with the board out of the case, you can give it a good douching with CRC spray contact cleaner (red can, not the blue can) to clean up the parts bodies and tops of the valve solenoids as well.

I also have a 2005 vert auto and have major issues with rt front brake applying unexpectedly at slow and hi speeds. Easley could kill someone. I found that you can get it removed and send into a repair shop for around $160 to be rebuilt and guaranteed. Absolutely am not a fan of ripoff dealers. Good luck!

Yes, I finally had to suck up to the local dealer here in Scottsdale for an accurate assessment and repair. My car without notice would valiantly pull into oncoming traffic and terrify me. They replaced a yaw sensor and relay. the car coded c0196 & s514 front end. Work completed professionally in September to my satisfaction although $775 seemed like a lot I'm no longer worried every second behind the wheel.
