Default cam motion low or high lift w/ 1.85 rockers

considering going with the cam motion (220/230-117+4) cam
For a 2008 ls3 vette, a6 auto with all the bolt-ons and yella terra 1.85
rockers. Reason for this cam I have a stock converter and want good driveability. So there are 2 versions the .553" and .595" lift. If I go with the higher lift I will be around .640" with 1.85 rockers is that too much unnecessary lift? I will go with btr .660 dual springs for that setup or should I go with the lower lift cam and be around .601"

You can have Cam Motion grind that cam with up to .612 on the intake and .655 on that exhaust. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on higher ratio rocker arms on a mild build.

You can go a bit bigger, cam wise, and still have perfect drivability. If you're not absolutely sure of your choice, employ Pat G to help. Best 40 bucks you'll spend on your build.

The way it reads he has the rockers already and I think it was a great purchase lol I would ask cam motion but at .57x will get you .62x and then you could use a great spring like a PSI1511 with titanium retainers and have a great light valvetrain to spin it to 7500.

yeah I already have the 1.85's it was one of the first mods I did along with long tubes ☺ the guy at cam motion recommends the low lift. 553" that will put me around. 601" lift. I already have pac 1219 springs for that but if I were to go with the high lift cam that would put me at .640" I would go with btr .660" springs. I don't know if I would gain anything with that much lift if I am not gonna gain more torque,hp I will stay with.601"

or should I ask cam motion to custom grind the low lift version around. 570 then I will be at. 620" lift? Originally I was gonna put a stock ls7 cam but thought it thru better to go with something the ls3 will respond better to

I used 1.82 rockers with the stock cam. When I swapped cams I had one spec'd taking the rocker ratio into effect. That is the best route.

Intake will be your limiting factor then. If you don't plan on turning it over 7000 then cam it that way. Do you have gear? If you dont have gear do you plan on doing so? Gear and a lighter clutch will do more for the car then a cam.

it's automatic and stock torque converter, stock heads so I guess no need to go that high on lift? .601" enough lift for my setup

I went 10.5 on a stock cam and stock heads. How fast do you want to go?

not looking for 1/4 mile times them days are over, lol
I want to enjoy the car and get some action on the streets
just looking for more top end pull. The cam is mild just that I
will have good amount of lift .640" that's if I select the .595" cam but if
I am not gonna gain anything going with that much lift I will stick with .601'

You motivated me to update my profile pic I also have jetstream blue LS3

Here is a great way to look at this scenario. You pick up about 8hp going from 1.7 to 1.85 rockers right? So at most your leaving that 8hp on the table and will have a less stressful event on the valve and a more reliable hot rod. My opinion for what your doing would be simply use the lower lift option and enjoy. You will save money by utilizing the PAC springs which are significantly lighter, easier on the valve then the BTR duals as well. Just going at it in a logical economical since.

but you also have blown stroker motor? Just curious so what's your lift now with the custom cam? I just have bolt ons, stock motor will I benefit anything going that high on lift 640 compared to .601

610/637

There are other factors.... personally I would have a cam spec'd rather than guessing. A good cam guy can give you exactly what you want out of it, and the cost is mimimal if any at all.

The valve passes by .630 2x which the stock head flows good there but the intake above 6500 does not. So if your keeping the stock intake the lower lift cam just makes more since to me. Cam motion will explain this better then anyone else.

In my opinion the stock converter is trowing you off going with a cam too small leaving way too much on the table plus no need to worry about changing rockers or using 660 valve springs if you select the proper cam, a 228 intake cam will fly off with the stock converter and a 111 instead of 117 and still can use 600 springs which will be good to 630 easy saving energy compare to a heavier spring & will not beat down your stock rockers.

My cam, with 1.8 rockers and ported heads, comes out to .667" lift.....in my daily driver.

This is not an issue as long as your valve train is correctly matched.

A 228 intake cam with even a mild 4 degree split will check in at 8 degrees of overlap. That's not even close to what the OP wants out of his cam swap. Plus, it's going to peak well under 6000 rpm. Not even close to stock converter friendly either.

see you are at .600" lift with your rockers what would you do? still stay in that range or add little more lift maybe gaining some more top end hp
I have the valve train for either setup.

I am not going with bigger cams and finding a "good" tuner been through
all that when I had 408/ls2 in a c5 vette. I enjoy driving this car just looking for more top end
The cam motion cam should give me decent power just wondering if I would gain more hp
going with .640 lift
