I got this code recently on my 06 Z. I can clear it ,and it takes a few days come back.
Car has full Borla exhaust, Hurricane CAI, and a tune. All connections look good, and MAF looks clean. Should I be looking at bad forward O2 sensor or air leak? Thanks for any help...
P0171 is a lean condition on bank 1, so would be looking for an air leak.
Do you think it could be a bad or lazy O2 sensor? This car has 19k miles, so I would not think the intake manifold is leaking. I have checked all hoses and connections. I did swap my Blackwing in place of the Hurricane and still need to drive the car. The hurricane did have a slight deformation at the top of the opening that connects to the duct in front of the TB. Hoping that might have been the leak.
Lazy O2 is easy to pick up via data logging the sensors.
Not sure what you have to data log, but for O2's, I use an elm327 wifi and my laptop running Scanmaster. Hence can pull up graphs on a single screeen for both pre and post sensors both sides (all 4) to not only take a look at specific sensor, to to compare both banks to each other as well.
Just look at the cycle rates between bank 1 and 2, and should be able to pick up the problem quickly if you have a lazy sensor in the system.
As for before replacing a pre-cat 02 sensor, swap them out between the banks and see if the problem follows the sensor. If not, then double check the wiring and connectors isntead.
