Hi All, I am back in a C6 this summer after too long of a break. It is great to be back in a Vette.
Yesterday when I went to drive my 2007 A6, the shifter was hard to move from Park to Drive. Once it was in drive I could only go from Drive to Neutral. After taking the console off I found the problem. There is a bar that moves up and down when the button on the shifter is pressed. The bar normally sits on top of a black plastic arm to the left (when looking at it from the back) and pushes it down when the button is pressed. Somehow this bar moved to the right and then left and got under the black plastic arm and was jamming things up.
I was able to slide the bar to the right and then left so that it is now above the plastic arm and it shifts great. I am concerned that this will happen again. Is the bar supposed to be secured somehow so that it doesn't move from right to left? Did something break off?
That happened to me as well. It is caused by the locking pawl that has not disengaged properly. Tie back the pawl and you will have no more issues. It has never happened to me since I did it years ago. Not only does it not get stuck in Park, but it is always easy to shift out of Park, and never gets stuck in Drive/Neutral.
