The shifter is moving freely without shifting the car out of park. I checked the transmission cable at the trans and it's connected?

If you have a C6, then you need to ask the question in the C6 Tech forum.

Remove the center console and perhaps the leather shift boot.
Cable could have broken at the shifter or a bushing failed.
Bushing is a notorious failure.
Do a search in this forum for aftermarket bushing kit or buy a new cable.
Easy but time consuming to replace the cable.
Low cost and also super easy to just do just the bushing.
